1. This week I made another mini collection, Savanna, prompted by Sketch Design Repeat’s 3×3 Challenge. It will soon be available on my Spoonflower shop and I think it would make great nursery decor!
2. Every year, planner company Golden Coil has a contest to find a new cover for their planners, and this year I entered! The company decides on their top 10 favorites, then the public gets to vote to find the winner on March 27. Find out more here.
3. My favorite season of the year has arrived! (Okay I say that about all the seasons. Maybe I should stop trying to pick a favorite)
4. I visited the Frame Factory this week to see a friend’s incredible art show and discovered two other artists, as well: Jon Styer and Ashley Sauder Miller. I was blown away by the intricacy of their work!
5. I completed my first freelance graphic design job, designing a flyer for a local church. Though I don’t currently advertise myself as a graphic designer or freelancer, word of mouth sometimes brings me small projects like this one, which I enjoyed greatly.
I believe in life-long learning and I try to be loose with what occupational title I give myself. I used to think that I wanted to try and be one of those rare people who makes their entire living off of licensing my surface designs, but I have come to realize that 1) it is very improbable that I could actually do that and 2) I love all types of art and graphic design, so why back myself into a financial and creative corner? These are the thoughts that came to me as I realize how much fun I had designing that church flyer and my own business cards. For a year or so, I had been desperately wishing to take an expensive, extremely niche-specific surface pattern design course, but now I am considering going to college to learn all there is to learn about every type of graphic design. Or maybe interior design? Or photography?
There is so much to learn in the world. So many possibilities; why commit to just one, tiny subject? Why not try to feed as many birds as I possibly can with one hand?

Noemi
