1. It’s a wrap! For a long time I had been wishing for a custom standing desk to fit into my space perfectly, and we screwed in the last screw last week, much to my delight.
I still have a list of accessories I need to get for it, such as stools, but I’m loving it so far!
2. Have you listened to the This is Love podcast? I love how it has all sorts of love stories, many of them not even romantic! I especially love the one about Gerald the gardener.
3. I heard of a new material so I thought I’d try it. It’s called Aquabord, and it works essentially the same as a flat canvas, although it is advertised specifically for watercolor. Have you used it? What do you think?
I personally think that it does not work well for watercolor at all, but it works nicely as a surface for collage or mixed media, which I ended up using it for. I might have enjoyed it better if it I had gotten the framed-canvas type, but I don’t think I’ll be buying it again.
4. Currently reading: Life of Pi by Yann Martel. It’s really good. Hilarious, interesting, and varied.
5. I stumbled onto this inspiring coffee table book by Craig Frazier. He has such a unique style, saying so much with simple marks and images.
6. We went up to Shenandoah National Park for a hike on Sunday, and it was perfect timing. We saw lots of wildflowers and birds, and the view was, of course, stunning.
7. I have been doing a lot more painting than usual in preparation for an upcoming exhibit, titled “Curiosity”! If you’re in the area, I’d love to see you there.
When: The gallery opening is 5-7pm on May 3rd, but the exhibit will be up for the rest of the month
Where: Hosted by Gaines Group Architects in the historic Chesapeake Western Depot in Harrisonburg, VA
My artist statement: I have always believed that lifelong learning and exploration are important for a joyful and creatively fulfilling existence that resists confines. As a multi-disciplinary artist, my art follows my free spirit, which lives in a state of constant curiosity. Whether in watercolor, acrylic, or graphic design, my work lingers in the confusing space between the simplicity of the natural world and the complex, tangled mess of human rule, transforming the confusion into something tangible, something beautiful. Welcome to my world of curiosity.
I’m excited!
xo,
Noemi
