1. Hello friend! Last week I did something that felt vulnerable and exciting. I posted my new collection, Autumn Sunlight, on Instagram for the whole world to see!
Fall is my favorite season, and I wanted these eleven patterns to resemble the nostalgic delight of crunching leaves, wide blue skies, and geese flying south. I hope this collection can convey that to everyone who sees it.
It is now available on home decor, wallpaper, and fabric in my Spoonflower shop. I am excited to see where this collection goes!
2. I am trying a new (yet another) task and habit management system which has gotten some craze in the last couple of years: Bullet Journaling.
I am sticking to the basic types of spreads for now, since I only really need a habit tracker and a daily to-do list, but I would love to try out some other spread types.
3. From Atomic Habits by James Clear: “Complaining about not achieving success despite working hard is like complaining about an ice cube not melting when you heated it from twenty-five to thirty-one degrees. Your work was not wasted; it is just being stored. All the action happens at thirty-two degrees.”
4. Making this small purse for a cousin this week was a new experience, because I had not sewn with zippers before. I was a bit intimidated, but it turned out to be easier than I expected. And it was so fulfilling to make something out of samples of fabric that I designed myself!
5. Recommended reading: How to Be Alive by Colin Beavan. So many nuggets of insight and inspiration.
6. I saw this on Austin Kleon’s newsletter last week (with the caption: “What worked on my kids often works on me”) and it resonated so deeply with me!
7. Now that I’m done with the Autumn Sunlight Collection, I am looking for another collection to make. Should I do a Christmas one, since I haven’t really done any holiday patterns? Or maybe a strictly floral collection? I love being back in this phase of, what next? Which bit of inspiration is worth taking into completion, and how will I go about that? Yesterday I was eating a bowl of cereal, and it popped into my head that I could do a breakfast collection with clementines and eggs and such. Maybe some gingham and flowers, too. We’ll see.
8. “Your success will be determined by your own confidence and fortitude.” ― Michelle Obama. Keep up the good work, my friends!
